February Is American Heart Month

Keep your ticker in tip-top shape with these tips, tricks, and stats.

February is the month of love, commemorated by hearts and Valentines--but it is ALSO a time when we celebrate our actual, literal hearts.

This month marks American Heart Month--a federally designated event, and an ideal time to remind Americans to focus on their hearts and to encourage their friends, families, and community members to do the same.

The annual celebration began in 1963 to encourage Americans to join the battle against heart disease. A presidential proclamation pays tribute each year to researchers, physicians, public health professionals and volunteers for their tireless efforts in preventing, treating and researching heart disease, which is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S.

And while we commemorate American Heart Month in February, it is important to remember that heart health and cardiovascular disease know no borders, and it is never not a great time to commit to a healthy lifestyle and making small changes that can lead to a lifetime of heart health!
