Renewal by Andersen of Central VA Brings Cheer to Hospitalized Children
Thsi month's team spotlight features employees from Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia (Richmond), who made life a bit cheerier for patients at a local children's hospital.
The Richmond location partnered with Cheeriodicals to deliver 152 “care packages” to patients at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU earlier this December. About 30 Renewal employees volunteered to assemble the Cheeriodicals gift boxes containing magazines, activity books, puzzles and games, among other items.
Lucy Conrad, the marketing director for the Central VA location, got the idea at Renewal by Andersen’s annual Retailer Summit last January in southern California, where Renewal by Andersen employees from across the country assembled Cheeriodicals packages for patients at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
“It was such a moving experience for everyone involved and I wanted to bring that joy to our team and, most important, the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU,” said Lucy. “I cannot thank Cheeriodicals enough for the work they do and I am overjoyed to meet the children, families, and staff who will be impacted due to this event."
Staff from the hospital’s Child Life Department coordinated the delivery.
“As Child Life specialists, we come to work every day to help children and families cope more effectively in the hospital,” says Heather Rossi, a senior Child Life specialist. “Donations like these help us make the hospital a little more fun during the holidays and throughout the year. We’re grateful for our community partners who help us make sure that kids come first.”
Renewal by Andersen of Central VA President and CEO L. Page Ewell also participated at the event.
“What a rewarding event to have everybody here, working together as a team for such a noble cause,” says Ewell. “At the end of the day, the thing that really made it matter was just to see the smiles on those children.”
