Beyond Wear Pink: American Cancer Society & Renewal 2019For the last 13+ months, we’ve been a proud supporter of the American Cancer Society in the fight for a world without cancer. Over the course of our two October campaigns, we raised nearly $603,000 as a company to help the ACS in their efforts. Now, we are happy to announce that we will be extending our partnership efforts beyond our 2019 Wear Pink campaign, and continuing on from there at events, showrooms, and other venues across the U.S. and Canada. “Supporting the ACS is really about supporting progress,” says David Benson, the executive vice president for the organization’s North Region. “The ACS is the largest private funder of cancer research in the United States, and has been on the forefront of early detection, prevention, and support services.” “Early detection and support are so important,” says David Meade (General Manager for Wyoming, Montana, and Rapid City). Meade, who is featured in the video below, was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in 2018; and then throat, tonsil, and mouth cancer in August 2019. He credits early detection, in part, for the excellent prognosis he has received from his doctors. “If we hadn’t caught it so early…my outcome might have been very different. As it is, now, they say it looks really good. This round of treatments has been rough, but the prognosis is good.” He also credits having a solid support system for helping him stay positive. “My wife has been a rock. My family…they were scared, but they would do anything; help with whatever I need.” A partnership with and commitment to the ACS is a natural extension of Renewal’s company culture and the people here, Meade says. “The support in the office has been great. And at work…Andy [Owner of RbA Wyoming/Montana/Rapid City] was the one who insisted I get a second opinion after my second diagnosis; that I travel to Texas to talk to experts. My co-workers rallied around me and gave me a going away potluck, saying ‘You got this!’ Meade continues, “Cancer touches us all, in some way. 1 in 3 people have been diagnosed or have a loved one diagnosed. It’s personal. Giving back is something we can all do in some way. Whether it’s money, or time, or volunteering. ” Benson, and the ACS agree, and are looking forward to the upcoming year. “Thanks, in part, to our generous donors, we’ve been able to invest $4.9 billion into cancer research. We’ve seen a 27% reduction in cancer mortality rates since the 1990s, and those rates continue to decline steadily. Cancer affects everybody, in some way. It doesn’t care who you are or what time of the year it is or what type of cancer you have. At the end of the day, we want to be there…for cancer patients and their caregivers when they need it the most. The support of Renewal by Andersen is a big part of that, and we can’t thank you enough for being a part of this team.”
